KUALA LUMPUR: Fitri Saari is expected to be dropped from Stephen Van Huizen’s squad for the tour of Argentina after the midfielder suffered a hamstring injury in training on Saturday.
The National Sports Institute (NSI) have confirmed that the 25-year-old will need two weeks to recover.
It has now caused a headache for Van Huizen as he was hoping to use the tour to strengthen his team’s midfielder ahead of the Indonesia Asian Games in August.
Van Huizen will make a decision on whether to drop Fitri when he names his 20-member squad for the tour on Thursday.
“A NSI doctor informed me that I may have to rest for two weeks. However, I am still being considered for the tour.
“Based on NSI’s assessment, I will be taking a huge risk if I go against their advice,” said Fitri.
Goalkeeper S. Kumar, who recently served out a six-month doping suspension, is expected to make the squad.
The team will leave for Buenos Aires on Monday where they will play six friendly matches against Rio Olympic champions Argentina.
