KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian women's national team were crowned champions of the MABA (Malaysia Basketball Association) International Basketball Invitation 2017 after beating Taiwan's Nan Shan team 73-63 in the final yesterday.
Malaysia, gained a one-point edge over their opponents after the first quarter and in the second quarter, they capitalised on the Taiwanese's turnover into points with a total of nine steals in the first half.
"I was not really focusing on the score but rather just keep driving in and raking up points," said 24-year-old top scorer, Chong Yin Yin in a statement issued by MABA.
In the second half, the national team went on to secure the win by keeping up with their strategy all through the third quarter, which resulted in them ending the quarter with 60-43.
In the final quarter, Malaysia kept Taiwan at a scoring bay with a 10-point lead.
The runner-ups were China Shanghai followed by Scotland's national women's team. On the men's side, Australia's ACBA Dragons emerged as champions followed by the Malaysian men's national team and National Taiwan Normal University team. -- BERNAMA
