KUALA LUMPUR: Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, who celebrated his 24th birthday yesterday, will start at 22th on the grid at the Spanish GP today.
The Malaysian, who suffered bruises to his body when his bicycle had an accident during training on Monday, clocked 1 minute 39.135s during yesterday’s qualifying session at the Jerez track.
“I was still feeling the pain (from the bruises) during qualifying,” said Hafizh.
“I hope to keep my pace for 25 laps tomorrow. But the bicycle accident has affected my riding.
“But this will not stop me from going all out tomorrow.”
LCR Honda Castrol rider Cal Crutchlow won pole position with the fastest time of 1:37.653s while Dani Pedrosa is second on the grid after logging 1:37.912s.
Hafizh’s teammate at Monster Yamaha Tech3, Johann Zarco, was third fastest with 1:37.956s.
On the eighth row with Hafizh are Karel Abraham of Angel Nieto Team and Xavier Simeon of Reale Avintia Racing.
Hafizh is 13th overall after three rounds of the MotoGP series.
