KUALA LUMPUR: Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali has admitted that he was not impressed with Adam Norrodin's performance in Moto3 pre-season testing.

Adam struggled to make an impact on the Honda NSF250RW at the final test in Jerez last week, which was hampered by poor weather conditions.

He finished the three-day test in 24th from 28 riders on a combined time of one minute 47.639 seconds.

Razlan, however, is giving him the benefit of the doubt ahead of the season opener at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar this weekend (March 16-18). Adam rides for Petronas Sprinta Racing, which is managed by SIC.

"Ayumu Sasaki (Adam's teammate) looked very strong at both Sepang and Jerez (tests) but I am a bit worried about Adam as he has not been doing very well so far," said Razlan.

"Team manager Johan Stigefelt and chief engineer Thibaut Gravier, however, have reassured me that this is ‘typical Adam’ — he is never great in testing but he should there in Qatar.

"Even last year, I was a little frustrated by his poor performances in testing but he managed to finish 10th at Qatar.

"The team knows him (Adam) better and he looks very calm and relaxed, which is good. We will just have to wait and see how he does in Qatar."

Razlan hopes to promote him to Moto2 in 2019 but he has made it clear that the 19-year-old will have to earn it.

"We expect him to be in the top-10 overall at the end of the year.

"If he does not make the top 10 then we will have to decide when we get there, in August maybe,” Razlan added.

He finished his rookie Moto3 season in 28th place on 14 points but improved to 17th (42pts) last year.
