FORMER UFC Middleweight champion Rich Franklin will be in Kota Kinabalu on February 23 in search for the next martial arts superstar.

Franklin will be making his visit to Borneo Tribal Squad as part of ONE Championship's new documentary series — Rich Franklin's ONE Warrior Series.

Franklin, a multiple-time middleweight world champion, will travel to various parts of Asia to visit local gyms with the first episodes being shot in Bangkok, Manila, Seoul, Tokyo and Beijing to discover new and upcoming martial arts talents.

Deserving prospects will be rewarded with a US$100,000 (RM390,000) contract with ONE Championship.

Franklin, who is the vice-president of ONE Championship and One Warrior Series chief executive officer, will be followed by the promotion's video production team as they journey across the region, chronicling the action to produce a series of compelling documentary videos.

“Asia is the hotbed of the industry's top martial arts prospects. It comes as no surprise, since martial arts has been home to the region for the past 5,000 years. Throughout my time in ONE Championship, I have paid witness to some of the best martial arts talent I have ever seen.

“Stars today such as Angela Lee and Eduard Folayang came from the grassroots level of talent in Asia, the next martial arts superstar is just waiting to be discovered,” said Frankling.

The new documentary feature will run in 30-minutes episodes.
