KUALA LUMPUR: Professional Golf Malaysia (PGM) chairman, Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid is confident the country will have a full squad qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, just like the 2016 Olympics.
Ahmad Sarji said the PGM had submitted a training programme based on their experience to the authorities.
“We managed to send a full squad (two men and two women) to Rio,” he said.
At the 2016 Olympics, Malaysia were represented by Gavin Green and Danny Chia (men), Michelle Koh and Kelly Tan (women).
“Our objective for the Tokyo Olympics is to have four Malaysian golfers qualifying for it,” said Ahmad Sarji during the launch of the PGM year book today.
During the launch, Shahriffuddin Ariffin and Ainil Johani Bakar were announced as the winners of the PGM Order of Merit for 2017.
Ahmad Sarji said though it would be tough for Malaysian golfers to qualify for the Olympics, the PGM will look at training programmes to help them.
