KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Sudirman Cup in the Gold Coast.

The team, led by World No 1 Lee Chong Wei, recorded an effortless 5-0 win over Germany in a Group IC tie on Tuesday.

Malaysia will take on favourites Japan, who defeated Germany 4-1 on Sunday, tomorrow to decide the group champions,

The winners of all four groups will avoid seeded opponents in the quarter-finals.

In the opening mixed doubles match, Malaysia's Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing overcame Mark Lamsfuss-Isabel Herttrich 21-17, 21-13 before Chong Wei thrashed Fabian Roth 21-12, 21-11 in the men's singles in only 34 minutes.

Men's doubles Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong gave Malaysia an unassailable 3-0 lead with a 21-16, 21-19 win over Jones Jansen-Josche Zurwonne.

Former world junior champion Goh Jin Wei produced a confident display by defeating Fabienne Deprez 21-10, 21-13 in only 31 minutes in the women's singles.

Women's doubles Woon Khe Wei-Vivian Hoo completed the rout for Malaysia with a 21-12, 21-11 success over Johanna Goliszewski-Isabel Herttrich on 31 minutes.
