KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad should realise his time is up and make way for Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Port Dickson by-election.

In saying this, former Jelebu MP Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim added that Isa should have done what was needed by the people during his 22-year tenure in office as Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar.

Speaking at a ceramah yesterday, Rais backed Anwar's candidacy, opining that Isa was already in his 'twilight time'.

“Objectively speaking in my view, Isa has failed in the realm of what we want to do in the future. He is already in his twilight time, and the new MP must have the authority and the finesse to bring up Port Dickson,” he added.

The seven-way polls Saturday has been touted to be down to Anwar and Isa despite PAS and four other independent candidates vying for the seat.

Isa who is former Teluk Kemang Umno division chairman walked out of the party when it decided to sit out the polls.

He is contesting Port Dickson as an independent.

Rais who was Negri Sembilan menteri besar between 1978 and 1982, said voters especially the older generation should not be easily swayed by sentiments alone.

“They should think of how their elected representative can bring real changes to the area. As residents of Port Dickson, can you or can you not rely on Anwar as an MP to bring changes? The answer is yes.

“However, Isa cannot bring that, he was in power for 22 years,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rais also said that he was having a hard time ironing out internal issues plaguing the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) state wing.

“Certain trends have developed, but I am positive that we are going to reorganise the interim committees of all eight divisions. From Oct 20, we will nominate the leaders of each divisions,” he added.

Asked about the problems the party faced, Rais said it was “inactivity, infighting and those who want to become leaders.”

“I told them you have to abide by the leadership and discipline yourself," he added.
