KUALA LUMPUR: The Barisan Nasional government will never compromise on matters pertaining to the sovereignty of the nation, said Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The Prime Minister said various measures had been taken to ensure that the country and people continued to enjoy peace and harmony, and these included adopting the National Security Council Act and the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Najib, who is also BN chairman, said the Anti-Fake News Act 2018 had also been enforced to protect the people from being bombarded with ever-increasing fake news.
He said fake news and false news might seem a trivial matter but they were a great threat to security, as had been the case in several countries where fake news had been used as a tool to intervene in the democratic process.
“… and, surprisingly, this matter is supported by some opposition leaders! The future of our country should be determined by Malaysians based on facts, not fake news and false promises and false hopes,” he said in a post today on his blog, www.najibrazak.com.
Najib also expressed regret that certain irresponsible people were prepared to set aside national interests and go to the extent of bringing foreign intervention in the country due to the greed for power.
He said the BN would implement all the promises and initiatives outlined in its manifesto if it was given the mandate to continue to administer the country.
These included increasing the number of security posts and conducting more monitoring along Malaysia’s borders through the Malaysia Border Control Agency, and transforming the elite squads of the police such as the Special Tactics and Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING), Special Task Force on Organised Crime (STAFOC) and Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (STAGG) for the sake of the people’s security, he said.
He also said that the BN government would take efforts to combat terrorism and extremism through the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM), enhance community participation in crime prevention through the police Volunteer Smartphone Patrol application and set up the Cyber Defence Operations Centre under the Defence Ministry.
The BN government would also expand regional defence diplomacy with the neighbouring countries with common borders; continue to disseminate the idea of peace and moderation in the country and internationally through the establishment of the King Salman Centre for International Peace and carry on with the modernisation of the Royal Malaysia Police force.
“Indeed, I am confident that so long as the Barisan Nasional continues to administer Malaysia, God willing, the country will continue to prosper and become more successful. Let’s make Malaysia great with the BN! he said. -- Bernama
