Its chief Tan Ken Liang said these opposition leaders should take responsibility and not escape to a new constituency.
By running away to a new constituency, Tan said the opposition leaders were actually depriving their existing voters the right to evaluate their performance within the past five years.
“Do not run away and be fair to your existing constituency. Allow them to judge you,” said Tan in a statement today.
He was commenting on the trend by a substantial number of opposition leaders who would be contesting in new constituencies instead of defending their existing seat.
It was reported that Yeo Bee Yin will not defend her Damansara Utama state seat but will instead stand as a DAP candidate at the Bakri parliamentary constituency.
It was also recently announced that Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir will contest the Jitra state seat instead of defending his Ayer Hitam seat in Kedah. Mukhriz has also been named as the candidate for the Jerlun parliamentary seat.
Tan added that many “frivolous excuses” were given by these opposition leaders.
“What happens to their unfulfilled promises in the previous general election? We urge the opposition to allow existing voters to judge their performance,” he said.
