ALOR STAR: Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir has been accused of trying to break his promise made to another individual for the Menteri Besar post after the state opposition pact chairman decided to contest for both state and parliamentary seats in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Srikandi chief Anina Saadudin questioned Mukhriz’s action which she claimed had a hidden motive and he was also power crazy after deciding to contest in the Jitra parliamentary seat besides Jerlun parliamentary seat.
In fact Ainina claimed Mukhriz had offered the post to former Kedah opposition leader, Datuk Amiruddin Hazmah, when wooing him to join PPBM.
Thus, she questioned if Mukhriz was toying with Amiruddin after the Ayer Hitam incumbent is contesting in Jitra state seat.
"After Mukhriz promised Menteri Besar post to Amiruddin, why is he contesting at Jitra state seat? What is his intention? Does it mean that if the opposition pact is given the mandate in Kedah, he will become an exco and the Menteri Besar post will be given to Amiruddin?
"If Mukhriz is contesting in Jitra after bringing Amiruddin to join PPBM and was promised the Menteri Besar post, it clearly shows his evil intention and his power crazy attitude," she told NSTP today.
Yesterday PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail announced Mukhriz would contest in Jitra state seat and Jerlun parliamentary seat while his father Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to contest in Langkawi parliamentary seat and Amiruddin to defend his Anak Bukit state seat and Kubang Pasu parliamentary seat.
On the same note, Ainina said Mukhriz’s action in getting Amiruddin to leave Pas and join PPBM and offering the Menteri Besar post was with intention to get more votes from the Islamic party in GE14.
She said Pas members in Kedah will not be swayed by Mukhriz’s game because the Menteri Besar post probably would not be given to Amiruddin.
"The opposition pact actually is not confident of winning Putrajaya, thus he did that (taking Amiruddin) to gain support from Pas members. I urge them not to be cheated by Mukhriz," she said.
Meanwhile, Ainina described Dr Mahathir’s decision to contest in the Langkawi parliamentary seat as the biggest mistake the former premier was making.
She said the PPBM chairman must have assumed that the voters in Langkawi would choose him due to their sympathy for him and his age factor.
"Actually, Dr Mahathir himself is not confident, thus why he chose Langkawi because he assumed that he could win there due to sympathy factor because of his old age but I don’t think that Langkawi people will do that," she said.
