KLUANG: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) leadership’s violation of its own constitution which led to a series of infighting, has turned the setup into a “cowboy party”.
Former Kluang PPBM coordinator Arjuna Putra Ali said setbacks particularly on the party’s registration process, failure to table its financial statement and holding annual general meetings (AGM) at branches and divisions had left matters to be less desired.
Arjuna urged the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to take “concrete action” over 400 reports lodged by party members since last October.
“It is likely that a ‘pemakan dedak’ (bribe-taker) who is (PPBM chairman) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s stooge is in RoS. If that is true, this person needs to be investigated.
“I am representing 398 complainants made of PPBM grassroots members, who are urging for the RoS to take action (against PPBM) without prejudice within 10 days from now.
“If there is no solution (after 10 days) I, together with all of the complainants will hold a peaceful demonstration in front of the RoS headquarters,”Arjuna told a Press conference today.
Arjuna said the complaint lodged to RoS pertained five issues on the holding of AGM, membership fee, membership registration without the nominator’s knowledge, alleged appointment of division chief’s cronies and failure to table financial statements.
“It is as if Dr Mahathir is so special. Why is there no action against him since despite all the formal complaints?
“I have evidence in the form of audio records saved on a hard disk, other than personal details of the complainants. But the evidence will be kept safe for now, over concerns that it might go ‘missing’, before submitting it to the RoS.”
In another development, Arjuna said PPBM’s leadership tend to toss aside grassroots members’ dissatisfaction voiced during meetings as merely “tafsiran” (in the context of personal interpretation of issues).
“The PPBM secretary-general (Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh) will usually use the phrase ‘tafsiran’ as an answer to all arguments.
“In truth, the term is actually used to safeguard PPBM’s leadership. The use of such a term needs to be explained to the grassroots. Or, just use (create) an article of ‘tafsiran’ within the party’s constitution to inform party members.”
