BAYAN BARU: Penang Gerakan’s Bayan Baru division has lambasted the state government for its lack of competency, accountability and transparency.
At the division's annual general meeting here today, its chairman Teh Leong Meng pointed to the controversy and confusion surrounding several projects and land deals in the state.
"The Penang Undersea Tunnel was announced back in 2013 and was scheduled to start construction in 2015, and was expected to be completed in 15 years," he said.
However, after spending RM200 million, Teh said that the DAP-led state government has failed to even produce a feasibility study report for the massive project.
He also said that the recent sale of Peel Avenue land is further proof that the state's slogan of “competence, accountability and transparency” (CAT) is dead.
Teh also urged the state government to build mass housing projects at affordable prices for the people.
He said low-cost units must not be priced more than RM150,000, adding that the state government must also introduce a rent-to-own housing scheme to allow more Penangites to own a home.
"The rental they collect can be used to pay off the price of the house," Teh added.
Also present was Penang Gerakan Chairman Teng Chang Yow.
