ALOR STAR: Kedah Pas has the right to include public caning for shariah offenders in the election manifesto if the party felt such move can win them more votes.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said it was up to the Islamic party to put whatever it wanted in their manifesto.
"It is their right to introduce what they want in their manifesto, Barisan Nasional has its own manifesto.
"In the end, the voters will make their choice," he told reporters after attending the Northern Region Felcra Bhd Hari Raya open house here today.
Yesterday, Kedah Pas commissioner Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Syeikh Fakhrurazi said the party is planning to follow Kelantan's footstep by including public caning in its election manifesto.
However, the decision, whether it is appropriate to do so in the state, will be deliberated by the party's manifesto committee.
Bashah, who is the state BN chairman, said BN's manifesto would always focus on the progress and development of all of the parliamentary constituencies in the state.
On the previous election manifesto, he said BN has delivered 90 per cent of its promises to the people of Kedah.
