JOHOR BARU: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's admission in wanting to depose the current prime minister since 2014 and assumption that such action will not harm Umno are dangerous notions that can have widespread repercussions.
Johor Umno Youth chief Hahasrin Hashim said it was irresponsible and unbecoming for Dr Mahathir, a former prime minister of Malaysia, to resort to such "lowly action" based on some accusations that were never proven.
"On what basis does dismantling the top leadership of a party and the country's top administration will not harm the organisation?
"Such assumption is too dangerous especially if it is founded on accusations which are proven to be incorrect, still under investigation and lacking in substancial evidence for any sort of legal action to be taken against it," said Hahasrin.
Hahasrin was commenting on Dr Mahathir's admission at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Friday that he wanted to depose Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak since 2014.
While testifying as a second witness in his son Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir's defamation case, Dr Mahathir admitted that he was not concerned that his actions would affect Umno.
"Therefore, this sort of assumption by Tun M is very irresponsible, especially for a seasoned politician and a statesman of his calibre." Hahasrin said.
