KOTA KINABALU: United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Organisation (Upko) members are reminded to change their mindset and think positively as Upko is no longer a small party.

Its secretary-general Datuk Donald Mojuntin said Upko has a big potential but noted it is still limited by members’ creativity, cooperative spirit and desire.

He said party members need to believe that Upko is now within a true political family and is capable of becoming a main player in the state political arena.

“Upko is a party that is rapidly growing and thus far, we already have more than 150,000 members from across the nation. This figure is increasing by the day.

“Therefore, in order to progress, we need to have a positive attitude and mindset,” he told reporters after launching the Upko Komulakan, Youth and Women movement tri-annual general meeting conference, here, today.

Mojuntin said the increase of party members regardless of their ethnicity and religious background proves that Upko struggle has matured and has entered a higher phase.

He said Upko is consistently fighting for critical and important matters, including the Malaysia Agreement 1963, freedom of religion and harmony, illegal immigrants, and issues involving the people’s economy.

“We need to continue ensuring the party is strong at each division so we are prepared to face any challenge ahead,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mojuntin rubbished a viralled statement, which states that a recent meeting between Upko and the Prime Minister was for the party leadership to apologise to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said the main purpose of the meeting led by Upko president Datuk Seri Madius Tangau was to explain Upko’s stand in championing issues close to the Sabah people.
