KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government has denied rumours that there is a premise in the state that will be holding the Oktoberfest beer festival this month.

Tourism, Culture and Information Technology committee chairman Ariffin Deraman in a statement said the state government has sent its representative to the premise to obtain an explanation.

While the premise does have a liquor license, its owner confirmed that there would be no Oktoberfest celebration organised as claimed on social media.

"I would like to stress that what is being shared on social media, that an Oktoberfest celebration will be held in Terengganu, is false.

"Until now, the state government has not received any application from anyone to organise Oktoberfest in the state.

"Therefore, the state government will continue to monitor from time to time to ensure there will be no such programmes in Terengganu," he said in a statement that was shared via Terengganu Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar's Facebook page, today.
