KOTA BARU: Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz who is the son of the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, is still the principal of Maahad Darul Anuar although there was a report that the Kelantan Islamic Foundation (YIK) would take over the school.
According to Nik Omar who is also Maahad Darul Anuar’s trustee, he was still the principal of the school and was still teaching until today.
“Like my previous statement, as the trustee of Maahad Darul Anuar, I deny sending application to YIK to hand over the school to the foundation.
“My late father (Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz) had given the responsibility to me as the eldest son to become the trustee in 2008 and as the recipient of the will, it never crossed my mind to hand over the mandate to anyone,” he said in a statement today.
Nik Omar said he accepted the will and the mandate with full responsibility due to his interest in the education field.
“As the will’s recipient and the trustee, I will never give the mandate to anyone and I will continue with the mission to ensure our dream (he and his late father's) can be fullfilled,” he said.
Nik Omar who was PKR candidate for the Chempaka state seat in the 14th General Election, said his family should not make such applications for the school, adding that the property was under 'wakaf' and belonged to neither the family nor to any individuals.
“Maahad Darul Anuar is still operating as usual until today and we are now in the midlle of taking new enrolment for next year's session,” he said.
On Wednesday, the Kelantan government confirmed that YIK would take over the management of Maahad Darul Anuar in Pulau Melaka which has been managed by Nik Omar, beginning next year.
Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the state government received an application from Nik Abdul Aziz’s family - `Keluarga Besar Nikmatillah’ - who was the trustee of the school.
He said the move was due to fewer applications to enter the school, with one reason being its high fees.
