PETALING JAYA: A woman who suddenly exited a taxi and rushed towards a traffic police officer asking to be rescued along Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) today, raised eyebrows, but cops are trying to get to the bottom of things.
In the 10.15am incident, the traffic police officer called for an ambulance which then took the woman to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
"Initial investigation found that the woman may have been running away from an abuse situation. Checks on her body found old and new bruises.
"The victim is a 33-year-old Vietnamese married to a Malaysian. They have one child aged four. She is also 14-weeks pregnant," Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said when contacted today.
Mohd Zani informed that the victim was believed to have boarded the taxi in Puchong but did not tell the taxi driver where she wanted to go.
"The victim then took to getting out of the taxi when she saw a police vehicle. At the moment, she is not answering questions by police investigators," he said.
A translator from the Vietnam Embassy in Kuala Lumpur will provide assistance tomorrow, Mohd Zani said.
"The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code," he added, stating that police have also recorded the statement of the taxi driver as investigation continues.
