KAJANG: Efforts to carry down the body of the hiker who died when he fell at the tip of Gunung Nuang yesterday have been delayed by inclement weather.

A police spokesman said rescuers were being slowed down by intermittent rain and soft ground.

The authorities had earlier predicted that the body of the 47-year-old victim was expected to arrive at the base of the mountain late this evening.

However, the spokesman said rescuers would likely arrive only at 1am or 2am tomorrow morning, having begun their descent at 8am today.

The victim’s body was found by other hikers, who alerted the authorities about 1.30pm. A team comprising firemen, Civil Defence Force members, police and Forestry Department officers was immediately despatched to the scene.

The hikers who found him believed that the victim was descending the mountain when the incident happened.
