JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees continues to rise as a total of 1,374 victims from 376 families now are taking refuge at the temporary flood relief centres in the state.
At noon Sunday, a total of 13 flood relief centres have been activated in Segamat, Mersing and Kota Tinggi, all of which were badly hit by floods.
In Segamat, a total of 103 people from 22 families have been evacuated to four relief centres since two days ago.
In Mersing, the number of flood victims has escalated to 1239 victims from 347 families.
Eight flood relief centres had been activated to provide temporary shelters and distribution of food aid to the evacuees.
As for Kota Tinggi, thus far, only 32 victims from 7 families were evacuated to the Kg Perepat community centre since Saturday afternoon.
Intermittent rains in several low lying areas kept these places flooded and cause access to several roads to be cut off.
A primary school, SK Punan, was forced to close today as roads leading to the school were inaccessible to vehicles.
As for Jalan Telok Arong in Mersing, the road was impassable to vehicles. Motorists heading towards Mersing and Air Papan have been advised to use the Tanjung Resang road.
