PUTRAJAYA : The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the Pujut state by-election will be held on July 4.
The nomination has been fixed on June 20.

"We have received notification from Sarawak State Legislative Assembly speaker on the vacancy of Pujut state seat following the removal of its assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon on May 12.
"The EC had a special meeting on this today and has decided that a by-election need to be held within 60 days after the seat is vacant," he said at a press conference.
He said the closing date for postal ballot papers application for domestic and overseas voters was on June 20 and June 22, respectively.
The EC has also agreed to propose Miri City Council acting secretary Morshidi Fredrick as state by-election managing officer. He will be assisted by three officers.
Hashim said a total of 483 officers will be appointed by the EC to ensure that the by-election runs smoothly.
A total of five schools will be used as polling centres.
The commission has allocated RM838, 536 to fund the state election.
On May 12, Sarawak International Trade and E-Commerce Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh tabled a motion at the assembly to disqualify Dr Ting as the Pujut state assemblyman over claims that he held Australian citizenship. The motion was passed with 70 votes, while 10 votes opposed.
In the May 2016 Sarawak State Election, Dr Ting won the seat with a 1,759 vote majority in a four-cornered fight.
