KANGAR: Perlis’s Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) has seized cigarettes and liquors worth RM7 million, including unpaid duties and taxes, at a warehouse in Permatang Puah, Seberang Jaya Penang yesterday.
The 3pm raid was conducted after two weeks of surveillance.
Padang Besar Aksem commander Superintendent Bahari Ahmad said the agency found 24,374 cartons of cigarettes in various brands worth about RM3.6 million including unpaid taxes and 1,814 cartons of liquor worth about RM3.7 million including unpaid taxes inside the warehouse.
Also seized were six lories worth about RM300,000, he added.
“Our team also arrested six individuals, including five Bangladeshi believed to be workers at the warehouse.
“Preliminary investigation showed that the warehouse has been in operation since three months ago and the cigarettes and liquors are bound for distribution from north Perak until Perlis,” he said when met today.
Bahari said the men and the seized goods were handed to the Customs Department for further action under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
