GEORGE TOWN: The High Court here today upheld an eight month jail sentence and RM2,000 fine against a veterinary officer for assaulting his wife in August 2013.

In his judgement, judicial commissioner Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed said that there is no necessity to overturn the magistrate's court’s previous judgement against Muhammad Affandi, 39.

"Your appeal has been rejected.

"As such, the jail sentence imposed by the magistrate's court before this stays.

"Since your jail sentence was postponed because you were on bail, I order (that) the sentence begin today," he said.

Muhammad was represented by counsel R. Palaniappan, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Jailani Abd Rahman represented his ex-wife, Siti Khadijah Ahmad Ramli, 41.

In May last year, Bukit Mertajam’s magistrate's court sentenced Muhammad to eight months’ jail and fined him RM2,000 for assaulting Siti Khadijah.

He was charged with committing the offence inside a lift at a private hospital in Perda at 4pm on Aug 12, 2013.
