KUCHING: Police today arrested a man attached with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) for allegedly raping a minor last year.

The suspect, 24, from Sabah, was picked up by police at the RMAF base here at 2pm yesterday.

The case came to light when the mother of the victim received a picture of her 15-year-old daughter appearing in the nude with an unknown man via a mobile messaging application last week.

Kuching district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said the girl, a school dropout, claimed that the man was her boyfriend.

"The (girl) also admitted that she had had sex with the man at a hotel at Jalan Abell here on Sept 6 last year.

"She claimed that they were both drunk when the incident happened," said Abang Ahmad.

Shocked over the incident, the victim's mother, 40, lodged a police report on Saturday, which led to the arrest of the suspect the following day.

The girl was sent to the Sarawak General Hospital for a medical examination, which revealed that the victim's hymen was torn.

Abang Ahmad declined to elaborate when asked for details on the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for statutory rape.
