SETIU: Police arrested a 40-year-old unemployed man for possessing a pistol with live bullets at a house in Kampung Saujana near Setiu, here, last Thursday.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Fazlisyam Abdul Majid said a team of policemen from the Setiu police station raided the house following a tip-off from the public at noon.
Fazlisyam said police received information from the public, claiming that the suspect from the same village was also involved with drug related offences.
"Following interrogation, the man was also believed to be involved in drug trafficking," he said, adding that police are investigating the matter.
"The raiding team failed to find any drugs but seized a .38 revolver and 10 live bullets in a bag hidden in the kitchen," he said.
The suspect was taken to the Setiu police station for further investigation under Section 8(a) of the Weapons Act 1960 for possessing the pistol and bullets without a permit.
Police have also obtained a seven-day remand order against the suspect beginning Friday to assist in investigations.
