KUCHING: The showdown between World No 1 Lee Chong Wei and his nemesis Lin Dan is on for the final of the Malaysia Open on Sunday in Kuching.

Chong Wei, gunning his 12th title, on Saturday made easy work of Hong Kong's Vincent Wong with a comfortable 21-12, 21-9 win in the semi-finals at the Perpaduan Stadium in Petra Jaya.

On the other hand, Lin Dan who has yet to win a Malaysia Open title was made to slog before carving out a 27-25, 19-21, 21-16 win over South Korea's Son Wan Ho.

The last time the two badminton giants met in Kuching in 2006, Chong Wei produced one of the best comebacks to see off the five-time world champion 21-18, 18-21, 23-21.

Prior to the Malaysia Open, Chong Wei last faced Lin Dan in the semi-finals of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, where the Malaysian won 15-21, 21-11, 22-20.
