CYBERJAYA: Local music fans are in for a rare treat.
Acclaimed school symphony orchestra, Seri Puteri Symphonic Winds Orchestra (SP Winds) is set to share the stage with local music legends Datuk Jamal Abdillah, Datuk Khatijah Ibrahim and Amy Search at the Shah Alam Theatre on July 14 and 15.
A two-night classical pop-rock music extravaganza, the SP Winds Flourishes Concert 2017 is aimed at raising funds for the school band which is set to compete at the 18th World Music Contest 2017 in the Netherlands on July 22.
With a string of world championship titles under its belt, including a gold medal at the Los Angeles International Music Festival 2016 and a silver medal at the New York Wind Band Festival 2015, SP Winds is a firm favourite at top international music competitions.
According to the president of the SP Winds' parental support group, Wan Jamaluddin Wan Abdul Malik, RM700,000 is needed to fly the 60-piece orchestra to the Dutch city of Kekrade for the prestigious world competition.
"We've managed to raise RM300,000 from a previous event. So we need to top up the rest from the concert series," he told reporters at a press conference here.
Also present were the school principal, Nor Aishah Abdullah and the music director, Hasnal Hashim.
As of this evening, 400 tickets to the SP Winds Flourishes Concert 2017 have been pre-booked.
The tickets will be officially sold online at www.myticket.asia from May 29 onwards.
"We have 1,200 seats left for the concerts. We hope to sell all seats so that we can finance the students' trip," said Wan Jamaluddin.
Seats are priced at RM99, RM149, RM199 and RM249.
Big-lunged rock star Amy Search will be performing with the orchestra on the first night, while Datuk Jamal Abdillah and Datuk Khatijah Ibrahim will mesmerise the audience on the second night.
