KUALA LUMPUR: ‘Talk is easy, but many of us seldom attend association meetings. If she turns up, great, and better still, we might elect her as a committee member,’ said Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman) president Zed Zaidi.

Sending this message out to Oh My English actress Tiz Zaqyah, he added that she should attend the artistes' association's meetings to highlight problems faced by fellow artistes.

In an interview yesterday, Zed said it was pointless for Tiz to highlight their grouses on social media, but bringing them up in association meetings would make a difference.

In an Instastory video on Tiz’ Instagram, she lamented that artistes were not sufficiently recognised for their work and that society at large perceived them as "stupid".

Actor and Persatuan Seniman Malaysia president Zed Zaidi said it was pointless for Tiz to highlight their grouses on social media, but bringing them up in association meetings would make a difference.

Tiz, who filmed an episode of Oh My English in New York, the US a few years ago, asked how Seniman membership could help improve the situation.

She said American artistes' associations ensured that actors received appropriate remuneration and minimum working hours.

To this, Zed said that Seniman members did receive benefits such as life insurance schemes.

"And to end the perception that artistes lack education, we offer them opportunities to further their studies at Universiti Utara Malaysia. When artistes further their studies and graduate, society will eventually realise that they are well-educated lot,” he said.
