THE CIMB Asean Stock Challenge has returned for the eighth year to challenge university students to demonstrate their investment and analytical skills.
Students will compete by trading with US$80,000 (RM335,888) of virtual start-up capital across five major stock exchanges in the region; Bursa Malaysia, Indonesia Stock Exchange, Singapore Exchange, the Stock Exchange of Thailand and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
CIMB Group, group chief people officer Datuk Hamidah Naziadin said “This year, we have added new features like mobile trading and the use of predictive data analytics to up the ante for the challenge — an apt reflection of CIMB’s embracing of the digital revolution.
“These new features are in recognition of the need for today’s graduates to develop a digital-ready skill set for the working world and this challenge would be a good way to contribute to that skill set. ”
Besides participants from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia, undergraduates from Brunei will also compete this year.
At the national round, student teams compete to be ranked the top three teams in their respective home countries based on the highest percentage gain on their investments during the trading period from Oct 9 to 27. These top teams will be judged based on their strategy papers, with the best team crowned national champion for their country.
The national champions from the six countries will present their trading strategies at the grand finale to vie for the overall regional champion title. They will be evaluated based on their long-term investment strategy and on-the-spot investment decision-making. The use of predictive analytics tools will sharpen the students’ abilities to forecast share price movements and stock market performances based on current and historical data.
A total of US$40,000 will be awarded to the winners of the national and regional rounds of the competition.
The regional champion team, who will be crowned at the grand finale at the Indonesia Stock Exchange in Jakarta will be awarded a study trip to the Tokyo Stock Exchange in Japan.
Registration for the CIMB Asean Stock Challenge 2017 is open from Sept 18 to 29 via https://stockchallenge.itradecimb.com/.
