KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ajiya Bhd to adopt the latter's Ajiya Green Integrated Building Solutions (AGIBS) for the development of housing projects under the SPNB Group.
Under the agreement, Ajiya will supply its patented AGIBS for housing projects undertaken by SPNB units, like SPNB Aspirasi Sdn Bhd, SPNB Idaman Sdn Bhd and SPNB Mesra Sdn Bhd.
SPNB's group chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Azizi Ali said that discussions are still in the early stages and that the two parties are looking at potential projects in which the AGIBS system can be deployed.
Ahmad said an announcement will be made once the target projects are identified.
The MoU is for a period of one year, pending the firming up of details on the usage of Ajiya’s new industrialised building system to build affordable homes.
Ajiya managing director Datuk Chan Wah Kiang said that the MoU is an invaluable opportunity for the company to work with SPNB to address the issue of affordable homes in Malaysia.
"Building affordable homes with the Industrialised Building System (IBS) is the trend going forward.
“AGIBS is different from other major IBS in town, as AGIBS is a fully-integrated IBS comprising Ajiya's whole series of housing components required to build a house, whereas the others are mostly focusing on single components," Chan added.
At the signing ceremony today, Chan said that his company, which manufactures and supplies building materials for the construction industry, has received positive indication that the maiden project from the MoU will be the “Rumah Generasi Baharu Felda,” comprising 20,000 houses.
It is expected to begin construction by the end of the year, or early next year.
